  • 25ml of Bourbon
  • 25ml of Aperol
  • 25ml of Amaro Nonino *
  • 25ml of freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • Loads of ice
  • Preferred glass would be a cocktail glass
  • Garnish with an orange peel *

Paper Plane is a cocktail which was introduced to me by my parents, and from my research it's a riff on a The Last Word which is one of my favourites, so we are off on a fine start.

* The official IBA recipe calls for Amaro Nonino, which I don't have. I do however have a bottle of Amaro Montenegro so I did a bit more research and a few clues suggested that Amaro Nonino has a strong orange nose, so to balance out the IBA suggestion for no garnish, I thought I'd add an orange peel to make up for it.

To make this involves the usual process: add all the liquids with plenty of ice in a cocktail shaker and mix vigorously. Strain through a sieve into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with an orange peel twist.

The key ingredient for me to tweak this would be to vary the choice of bourbon. Drink it with a salty snack, and you should get some phantom notes of grapefruit amongst the citrus.

I have no idea about the name yet, but it's good.
