How To Make: The Last Word

IMG_2881

  • 25ml of Gin
  • 25ml of Chartreuse
  • 25ml of Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur
  • 25ml of freshly squeezed lime juice
  • Preferred glass would be a cocktail glass, but sometimes I prefer a coupe
  • Garnish with a couple of Luxardo Maraschino sour cherries

This is a pretty simple cocktail, and will be appreciated by those who like a sour. The main attraction for me is the inclusion of Chartreuse, which is a key feature in the book Lost Souls, the first book by Poppy Z. Brite, that I read in the 1990's. Vampires, goths, teenage angst, what's not to like? Anyways, I digress.

It's equal parts of all ingredients, so you slock them all into an ice-filled cocktail shaker and shake the shit out of it. Hopefully you will have put your cocktail glass into the freezer to chill it, but if not no worries. Strain it all into the glass, and then garnish it with a couple of Luxardo Maraschino cherries on a stick.

This is apparently was a prohibition-era cocktail which fell out of favour. I will continue to appreciate it sparingly, as it is fucking pricey to buy 3 of the ingredients here in the UK, but it is a superb cocktail, and well worth the effort. It MUST be made with the specific ingredients, and I made a few attempts without the Luxardo brand bits... and there is a difference.

Or, you could experiment... and that's where new worlds are discovered!
